Plot summary
When the arcade closes, the characters leave their games and mingle through a power strip called Game Central Station. For thirty years Ralph has been the bad guy of Fix-It Felix Jr., tearing down the building that Felix rebuilds, and the game's anniversary party goes on without him. Convinced a medal will earn him respect, he sneaks into the first-person shooter Hero's Duty and gets past the Cy-Bugs to take one. A Cy-Bug stows away in the shuttle he takes, and he crashes into Sugar Rush, a kart racing game. With Ralph gone, Fix-It Felix Jr. is labeled out of order, so Felix leaves to find him and allies with Sergeant Calhoun of Hero's Duty. The glitch Vanellope von Schweetz takes Ralph's medal to buy her way into the race that King Candy forbids her to enter.

- The high score on the main screen of the Fix-It Felix, Jr. arcade cabinet, 120501, is a nod to the birthdate of Walt Disney, December 5, 1901.
- Nintendo asked the producers to devise a scene that would suit Mario, and they knew they would be able to use the character, but they could not find one that let Mario be significant without taking the spotlight from the main story, so they left him out.
- The concept of Wreck-It Ralph was first developed at Disney in the late 1980s under the working title High Score; it was redeveloped several times, taking the working title Joe Jump in the late 1990s and Reboot Ralph in the mid-2000s.
