Product Description
Two years before the deranged genius of ROBOWAR and SHOCKING DARK, writer/director Bruno Mattei and co-writers Claudio Fragasso & Rossella Drudi borrowed from RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART II, MISSING IN ACTION and more to create their own mind-blowing 'Namsploitation masterpiece: Reb Brown (UNCOMMON VALOR) stars as Sgt. Mike Ransom, a one-man war machine on a screaming-for-vengeance mission against brutal Vietcong, merciless Russians, double-crossing U.S. officers and acres of bullet-blasted Philippines jungle. Christopher Connelly (RAIDERS OF ATLANTIS), Luciano Pigozzi (ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK) and Jim Gaines (ISLAND OF THE LIVING DEAD) co-star in this exploding bamboo gun-tower of "Mattei magic at it's finest" (Good Efficient Butchery), now mastered in 2K from the original negative for the first time.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2021(3.5 stars for the film, 5 stars for the blu-ray)
"Strike Commando" is a 1986 ripoff of "Rambo: First Blood Part II" with a bit of "Missing in Action" thrown in for good measure. It was co-directed by schlock legends Bruno Mattei & Claudio Fragasso from a script by Rossella Drudi and starred Reb Brown. Filmed in the Phillipines, it is actually one of the more competently made films in Bruno Mattei's oeuvre but is still cheesy Italian fun of the highest order.
Severin Films brings "Strike Commando" to blu-ray in both extended (1 hr. 42 min. 9 sec.) and theatrical (1 hr. 31 min. 45 sec.) cuts along with a few informative extras.
Both cuts of the film feature a brand new 2K transfer from the original camera negative in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio utilizing the AVC codec at a beefy bit rate usually locked in at 36.8 so no compression artifacts are visible. Overall the film looks great though there are some fleeting moments of print damage (more in the extended cut) and soft detail that do not detract from an otherwise strong presentation. Detail, color and contrast/black levels look great and the source overall appears to have been kept in nice shape. This is more than likely the best 'Strike Commando" has ever looked.
On the audio front you get two options: English LPCM 2.0 channel and Italian LPCM 2.0 channel sound. The audio can get a bit shrill during certain scenes (such as when a character is blowing a whistle during the opening sequence) but for the most part sounded good. English subtitles in yellow font are included for the hearing impaired.
Extras are as follows:
- War Machine: Interview with co-director Claudio Fragasso (19 min. 45 sec. in Italian with English subtitles)
- All Quiet on the Phillipine Front: Interciew with screenwriter Rossella Drudi (13 min. 11 sec. in Italian with English subtitles)
- Strike Commando in Production Trailer (2 min. 32 sec.)
- Trailer (2 min. 05 sec.)
"Strike Commando" borrows so liberally from "Rambo: First Blood Part II" that it borders on plagiarism at times. But that is the big draw of Italian exploitation cinema from the 80's. I had not seen this film since way back in the 90's on awful looking VHS so this blu-ray by Severin Films was truly a revelation. Now scream along with me: JAKODA!!!!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2021I liked this. It was a Rambo ripoff and it was fun to watch. The acting was not so good as
to ruin the parody effect. it had lots of violence and death. The silly part of it was that it
showed the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers as stupid warriors who would just stand around and let somebody shoot them down like targets. They were not that at all! They were vicious, competent, tough fighters who were no joke at all. But, okay, for entertainment purposes and humor maybe.
But that is not the way it was. I still recommend this movie but like I would recommend a Saturday
morning cartoon. One doesn't take a coyote chasing a bird seriously even though it is entertaining.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2011Oh man, this movie will make you a fan of Reb Brown. It's a rip-off of Rambo mainly, but incorporates a couple other movies as well (including, but not limited to: The Terminator, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome; interested yet?). I mean, just look at the cover! The gun in the cover isn't in the movie (though I would loved to have seen that), probably due to it being low budget and using stock footage at brief moments, but it sets the picture for just how over the top (unintentionally) hilarious this movie is.
To sum up the plot, Reb gets wounded and recovers behind enemy lines in Vietnam, tries to help a Vietnamese village out, but finds out Russians are killing people too, so he gets out of Vietnam for debriefing, returns alone under the same plot-line as Rambo 2, finds the Vietnamese village massacred, gets captured by the Russians, eventually brakes free, has a bunch of shootouts and one of the goofiest fights I've ever seen in my life with the big macho Russian guy (who looks like a regular American guy trying to make some sort of accent), and ends it with the way Rambo 2 should have ended, shooting up both the place and the guy who backstabbed him twice in the movie. And if you didn't think you saw enough goofiness, over-the-top acting and moments (and Reb Brown screaming) at that point, he has one last fight afterwards (which I won't spoil, but it's got to be the greatest ending moment I've ever seen in a movie like this).
Highlights include Reb's yelling (of course), the cheesy acting, the Disneyland death speech (impossible not to laugh hearing that), more Reb Brown yelling, the fight with the Russian, and the last and 2nd to the last explosion in the movie.
Bottom line, you have to see this movie. I've never seen a movie this bad that was this entertaining in my life, and I've seen Plan 9 From Outer Space.
On a personal note, when I purchased this movie supposedly brand new from a seller on this site, it ended up being used and was missing a small amount of footage from the beginning. Be careful who you buy this from.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2021He looks like sick Rambo. Copied almost all the scenes. Dead bodies breath! He magically acquire his heavy machine gun and ammunition suddenly got replenished. Armature background music. Total waste. Why in the world do you need to reproduce the Rambo II?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2021You can check my my other reviews. I'm usually very stringent with number of stars I bestow upon a movie. I have watched "Strike Commando" and when the credits started rolling, I was still shaking in disbelief. Having lived many years and watching countless movies, how did I miss this masterpiece? From start to finish, this action packed thriller full of little known but powerful actors kept me at the edge of my seat. I would highly recommend it to people who are fan of this genre and again my only regret is not discovering this gem earlier. Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great crap. Great price.
Great crappy Italian Rambo ripoff. If you're a Fraggasso fan 'Troll 2',Zombie 3 etc. Alot of yelling and alot of shooting people with machine guns. This dvd is the right price there is no need to shell out for the bluray.
