Product Description

Richard Dreyfuss plays actor Jack Noah, who gets the role of his life when Parador's fascist strongman consumes too much national drink and drops dead the day before the elections. The chief of police (Raul Julia) then "invites" Noah to assume the role of president—under the threat of death. Noah's confidence grows with each speech and with personal support from the dead leader's sultry mistress (Sonia Braga), a champion of Parador's downtrodden masses. But when guerilla fighters strike, Noah wonders if it might not be time to move to a new role.

    This is a great film and it's surprising to me that it's not more well known. Richard Dreyfuss is fantastic and, in fact, it may be one of his best and funniest roles. It also features the late great Raul Julia, an actor who died before he got the fame he deserved. Also in the cast is the great comedian Jonathan Winters.

    The story is a bit preposterous (to say the least), but it's such a funny concept. It would spoil the story if I said to much about it, so suffice to say that it takes place on a Caribbean island and Dreyfuss gets a chance to play the role of a lifetime.

    Great movie. Worth watching many, many times.

    Moon Over Parador has always been a wonderful movie, however it is hysterical, sad, and relevant again in light of the death of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. Many normal people who are in no way conspiracy theorists believe that Chavez died in December of 2012 and that the death was covered up until spring of 2013-- including at least two other South American leaders who believed his "body" to be a wax dummy at his funeral. He may have died in December while in Cuba for a 3rd cancer surgery. One could imagine, in a fanciful way, that the Chavez Government devised the idea after watching Moon Over Parador. The similarities are uncanny. In any case, the movie is the best "dictator spoof" that I have ever seen, does a great job lampooning U.S. backed "puppet governments" and the CIA, and in Richard Dreyfuss did an amazing job acting. I highly recommend this movie!

    After watching it, I found it similar to the 1993 movie “Dave”. Both movies are entertaining. Great performances by Richard Dryfuss, Raul Julia, and Sonia Braga.
