This movie came out in 1998,don't know if a lot of people saw it,but this was a good movie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lang was awesome. If you miss this movie you miss a good one.I got it for my aunt for her birthday

    Another reviewer extols this (now) camp classic much better than I can. However, if I can toot my horn, I declared it a future "camp classic" two decades ago. A rare prescient moment for me.

    Good movie for its time! This is Jessica Lange at her best....pre American Horror Story!! She can play one twisted B@(CH!! I only give this movie 4 stars because, it seems that the movie did not do well in previews and had to be reshot, and in doing so Gwyneth must of had a different haircut and had to wear a wig....and it quite obvious, which makes you lose focus on the story when you see it

    結婚するに際してジャクソンは「子供の時に浮気した父親を殺してしまった」と打ち明けた。

    施設にいるジャクソンの父親の母親のアリス(ニナ・フォック)はマーサのことを警告した。ヘレンはさらに話を聞きに行った。

    マーサは産婦人科医に「ヘレンは自宅で出産する」と勝手に通告。馬の陣痛促進剤を混ぜてケーキを作った。

    「(1981)郵便配達は二度ベルを鳴らす/The Postman Always Rings Twice」。ジェームズ・M・ケインの原作があり、四度も映画化されている。

    ニック(ジョン・コリコス)とコーラ(ジェシカ・ラング)はロスアンジェルス郊外で、カフェ＋ガソリンスタンドを経営していた。フランク(ジャック・ニコルソン)という流れ者が雇われた。フランクとコーラは愛し合うようになり、ニック殺害を企てた。

    浴室でコーラは金属球をいれた袋でニックを殴ったが失敗した。次に二人は峠の道で転落事故を装ってニックを殺害した。フランクは裏切ってコーラだけが起訴されて裁判となった。

    「(1984)カントリー/Country」。アイオワ州の農家アイヴィ家は苦しい状況にあった。農作物の価格の低迷、竜巻などの災害。借金は膨らんでいた。周囲の他の農家も同様である。

    近くのアーロン・ブリューアーは破産宣告を受けて自殺した。アイヴィ家にも競売通告が来た。そのような中で夫のギル(サム・シェパード)は姿を消した。

    妻のジュエル(ジェシカ・ラング)は父親の励ましを受けて、周囲の農家を駆け回った。競売が始まった。農民たちが駆けつけた。競売に対する反感が渦巻いた。

    「(1988)熱き愛に時は流れて/Everybody's All-American」。ギャビン(デニス・クエイド)は大学のフットボールからプロの選手となった。恋人のバブス(ジェシカ・ラング)はマグノリア・クイーンに選ばれたが、その道には進まずにギャビンと結婚した。ギャビンはプロとして活躍した。

    バブスは、ギャビンの名声を利用するあるレストラン経営者に雇われたが、こき使われた。しかしバブスは別のレストランチェーン経営者の信頼を得て、チェーンの経営を任されるようになった。

    この間に子供もできて、やがてギャビンは引退した。大学卒業の25周年の集会でギャビンはバブスに感謝の言葉を述べた。

    「(1991)ケープ・フィアー/Cape Fear」。「恐怖の岬(1962)」のリメイク。マックス(ロバート・デ・ニーロ)は14年間の刑務所暮らしの後に出所した。そして自分に対して十分な弁護をしなかった弁護士に復讐をし始めた。

    マックスは弁護士サム(ニック・ノルティ)の一家に嫌がらせを始めたが、違法すれすれのところで寸止めした。対してサムは三人を使ってマックスを襲って逆に訴えられる。

    ついにマックスが動き出し、雇った私立探偵が殺された。

    サム一家は岬にある別荘にひそかに逃げ出した。しかしマックスは、車の下に自分の体を結び付けて追跡した。嵐に揺れる船の中で最後の決戦となる。

    「(1992)開拓/オー!パイオニア/O Pioneers!」。バーグソン家は、広い草原の中の孤立した農家。父親は病気で先は長くはない。自分も家族も自覚している。

    農家は苦しい状況で、周囲は土地を手放して出ていく農家が多い。リンストラム一家も出て行き、仲が良かったカールがいなくなった。

    アレグザンドラ(ジェシカ・ラング)は父親の遺志を継いで、借金まみれになりながらも農場を大きくして成功した。しかし弟のうち二人は離反していき、もう一人は死亡して独りぼっちになった。

    そんな時に幼馴染のカールが立派な大人になって戻ってきた。

    「(1992)ナイト・アンド・ザ・シティ/Night and the City」。ヘレン・ナゼロス(ジェシカ・ラング)は夫と一緒に飲み屋をやっている。その店にハリー・フェビアン(ロバート・デ・ニーロ)という口八丁のワルの弁護士が来ている。ヘレンはハリーを好きである。

    ハリーが突然「ボクシング興行をやる」と言い出した。客観的に見れば見込みはないが、ハリーはやる気満々。そしてハリーには金がない。ヘレンの夫フィルに金を借りに来た。15000ドル。もちろんフィルは貸す気はない。

    ヘレンが怒って言った。「15000ドルなんて簡単に言わないで。もし自分で7500ドル調達できたら、残りはフィルが貸すわ」。フィルは「その通りだ。お前には7500ドルも集められない」と納得の顔をした。

    そしてヘレンは自分のヘソクリの7500ドルをこっそりとハリーに貸した。ここはうまく行ったようだが、しかしハリーはさらに困難にぶつかる。

    「(1997)シークレット/嵐の夜に/A Thousand Acres」。農場主のラリーは娘たちに農場を譲ると言って手続きをした。しかし直後から「農場を奪われた。取り戻す」と言い出し、裁判を起こした。

    ラリーは敗訴し、長女のジニー(ジェシカ・ラング)は家を出て、町で働き始めた。次女のローズ(ミシェル・ファイファー)のガンが再発し死亡した。

    ジニーはローズの子供を引き取り、農場を売り払って、人生を再出発した。

    「(2016)素敵な遺産相続/Wild Oats」。エヴァ・フェントン(シャーリー・マクレーン)の夫が死亡した。生命保険金が振り込まれたが、手違いで100倍の金額。戻そうとしたがオンラインの手続き方法が分からない。

    それでエヴァは、この金をいただくことにした。親友のマディ・レイノルズ(ジェシカ・ラング)にも半分分けて、カナリア諸島に行って金を使いまくった。

    Not the best movie ever made,but fun,great over the top acting from Jessica Lange and Gwyneth Paltrow! There are loads of films where they begin with the fanmily or couple re-locating to a(supposedly) idyllic village or rural setting,then it all goes pear-shaped,and the leads are fighting for their lives.

    This is no different in it's plot-line,but the faces Jessica Lange pulls are delightful and sinister.Beltin' bit at the end where the kitchen door is swinging to and fro,leaving Ms Lange in a state of turmoil!

    Gripping,funny and a totally indulgent treat!
