Product Description

THE BRINK follows Steve Bannon for a year leading up to the 2018 mid-term elections in the United States, shedding light on his efforts to mobilize and unify far-right parties in order to win seats in the May 2019 European Parliamentary elections. To maintain his power and influence, the former Goldman Sachs banker and media investor reinvents himself — as he has many times before — this time as the self-appointed leader of a global populist movement. A keen manipulator of the press and gifted self-promoter, Bannon continues to draw headlines and protests wherever he goes, feeding the powerful myth on which his survival relies.

Great film for anybody who wants to know what modern power politicking looks like from the Bannon box. I'm not sure if the director was aiming to be neutral, but my experience of the film was mostly neutral. No matter how you slice it, Bannon is enigmatic, charismatic, and one of the most powerful people in the world, and as such should be studied by anybody paying attention to the world.

I think the filmmakers did a great job at staying objective and showing both sides of the Steve Bannon story. it is really interesting to see such up close and personal footage of him, as he was fairly in the background on the campaign. The cameras/story follow him through his rise and removal from trump campaign, as well as breitbart. Very interesting, regardless of where you are ideologically

this is an interesting look at the pr machine behind the trump election and how far reaching the bannon movement was.

It was nice to see a human side of Bannon & his dedication to what he believed to be the right path for the USA.

No doubt about it. He’s one of the most important political figures of all time.

OMG- I can't believe I spent $4 to rent this and wasted 90 minutes of my evening. This is not for ANY political reason. The film is a total nothing sandwich. I learned NOTHING other than seeing some "behind the scenes" footage.

Keep moving folks- nothing to see here.

I guess I didn't see what others did in this movie. We get a surface view of his boringly repetitive work. Having seen many of his "speeches" I find he uses the same phrases over and over thinking they are somehow clever (ie: I'd rather have the first 100 people that walked in here today running the country than 100 guys from Goldman Sachs). It seems to be a generational thing as most of his crowd appears to be from the 55+ community. He maintains the façade of intelligence well enough to make people believe he's smart, but really if you look deeply enough, he gets a few resources then quotes them frequently giving the appearance of great knowledge. However, he couldn't even pronounce the name of the Chinese diplomat Ms. Klayman instructed him in several times. Which proves that it is possible to read a great number of books without gaining actual knowledge from doing so. Knowledge and information are not the same thing. One requires critical thinking, the other is a collection of facts.
As for political savy, even there he doesn't even seem to get many things right. Did he really get trump elected? Perhaps some of his extreme ideas did help. But past that, he doesn't seem to be a particularly good strategist. He was really wrong about Roy Moore. Where was the vetting to know what the risks were for his candidacy? Then he was "hands-off" while the heat was on until he thought Moore might win, then he was back in the picture. And he was still wrong. Like the mid-terms were a "second election" and "do-over" for the Dems until trump lost. He doesn't even acknowledge that things could "possibly not go well" until election day. Really? When you have 4 people show up at a rally, something may be wrong. Though you don't get a feeling for the low turnout looking at this movie. They did talk about him being disinvited to the New Yorker conference, but not the one in Montana that collapsed when presenters found out he was giving the opening address - which proves what a good move the New Yorker made.
Which brings me to the flaw in this documentary. HIs losses and failures are glossed over. I don't know if that's because they didn't want the subject of their film to seem irrelevant and therefore, why the heck are you making this? But watching this film you can almost make the mistake of thinking he's relevant. He's not. The MSM love to promote him for some reason and when they aren't calling him, he's calling them for interviews (Fareed Zakaria interviewed him because he called and made himself available). They don't talk about the Errol Morris movie that no one wanted to see & he couldn't even get a distributor for. What is left out is as critical to understanding this cheap hustler as what was left in.
But if you listen carefully to what he says in the part about "personal life," you understand what is driving him. "What else am I going to do?" It isn't about populism, "economic nationalism," or any of his other rhetoric. He's just someone with nothing else going on that is addicted to the attention this particular lifestyle affords him. How sad for him and how trivial and boring for the rest of us.
