When the man-eating giants called Titans first appeared, humans retreated behind massive walls. After a hundred years of safety, a colossal-sized Titan smashes through the defenses, unleashing a flood of giants and carnage in the streets. Eren Jaeger watches helplessly as one of the creatures devours his mother.
He vows to kill every Titan walking the earth.
Eren and his surviving friends enlist to fight against the insatiable monsters. The future looks bleak, but there’s more to Eren than meets the eye: he may be humanity’s last hope against extinction. From the director of Death Note and High School of the Dead comes the series Anime News Network calls “an intense, visceral, and graphic thrill ride.” The Titans have come to feast. Anything can happen. No one is safe.
Product Description
When the Titans first attacked, life for mankind was forever changed. Fearing the massive man-eating humanoids, survivors constructed three enormous walls for protection. From that point on, humanity lived safely behind the walls-for the time being.
A century later, life is peaceful. Eren and his friends live inside the walls, yearning to explore beyond the borders they've always known. But the opportunity comes sooner than expected when a Colossal Titan appears above the wall. With a single kick the barricade is pierced, allowing a swarm of titans to pour in and devour their newly exposed prey. Witnessing the devastation, Eren and his friends vow to destroy the man-eating terrors.
The future looks bleak, but there's more to Eren than meets the eye: he may be humanity's last hope against extinction.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2022I doubt the writers had any idea what they were doing. A lot of assumptions were made about the world AOT is in, like it's clearly the real world like a post apocalyptic version of it, but like with titans. This movie along with it's sequel can easily be viewed as an alternate telling of the story, that being said if you're able to view these as simple standalone movies completely detached from any kind of source material, or if you just don't know what AOT is, you might enjoy them for the stupid action movies they are. The action is kinda cool, all the characters suck except Sasha, the Titans were really well done by the CGI team, the story is hard to follow and you will need pre-existing knowledge of how things are supposed to be to understand what's actually going on, and you should definitely force all your friends to watch it. This movie is an absolute dumpster fire that shouldn't be missed.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2017A conceptually interesting film. Many interpersonal relationships involved and somehow not too clear, but clear enough. Giant mutants that ingest human brings if they can get their hands in them and they feast when they do. Nothing can stop them there is no shelter. Walls are built. This part of the film is a conundrum. A huge giant, unnamed and undescribed, who stood over the giant walls and kicked a hole in the bottom of the wall so the smaller giant mutant could get through. This was never clarified. The military was no match. Killing them only lasted a few moments and they regenerated. They reached out to whatever human was there and promptly put them in their mouth.
The story develops to the pint that years later a single method is found that kills the mutants and they stay dead. to use this method the defenders literally have to fly. The have mechanical rigs that let them attach like Spider-man and they maneuver to reach the kill spot.
The ending was strange and I didn't understand it too well, but overall I liked this strange movie.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2016Oh man...what can I say? Its ok, I don't really like much anime but I loved AOT. If you didn't like AOT this wont be great. If you did like AOT, this still might not be great. They departed from the original story a good bit, they condensed it and changed the order of events, a few characters, and the general time went from medieval from post apocalyptic The ODM scenes just don't have that crazy breakneck spider-man speed that the anime had and most of all the titans....just don't work. The creepy mindless grins and smiles, the terrifying indifference with which they calmly enacted horrifying violence on terrified screaming victims; it doesn't translate to live action. Of course its riddled with slow dialogue and almost excessive character development (something all anime is guilty of at times) that just makes you wanna fast forward. So why 4 stars?? Because its AOT and I have been waiting for more AOT for a hot minute!! Honestly it wasn't horrible. The titans are not as good as they are in the anime, neither is the odm action but...it still good! Honestly if they had stuck with the story more I would have forgiven allot more. Give me Captain Levi and Ill give you 5 stars.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2018I don't think it's fair to recommend that people not watch a movie. I think that they should make their minds up on their own. Besides, the VERY LOW PRICE to rent this movie more than makes up for any true loss a person might feel if they aren't satisfied. Barring FLAT OUT robbery, shoddy products or absolute defects, recommending or watching movies are a totally different set of circumstances. Do you have any idea how many of my personal, long-time friends told me to stay away from the Tick (The New Series on Amazon Prime)? "It's stupid!", or "...it's too campy!"
Well, I've never loved a show more in my entire life!
Here's some advice to people on the fence about this LIVE ACTION INTERPRETATION OF AN ANIME SERIES:
1. it's not intended to replace our beloved anime series. It can't.
2. You shouldn't expect the EXACT SAME THING IN LIVE ACTION that you've already seen in the ANIME SERIES. Time constraints won't allow it.
3. I actually liked the live action iteration of Full Metal Alchemist a little more than this, but AoT LA was stunningly hilarious, horrifying and entertaining at the same time.
4. If you've ever witnessed people in cos-play and thought, "Wow, they put a lot of effort into that costume!", well this movie is the functional opposite of that feeling and will literally make you vomit. I don't mean like, in the back of your throat. Naw, you might well chuke all of that raspberry iced tea and nacho dip all over your couch. I mean, it's haunting. All of the veins, [aw man, it gave me PTSD...] the flesh and jiggling meaty folds [...that did it.]
5. Seriously, if you're here and reading this, you're already better than 50% there. Treat yourself and make sure that minors are nowhere near you when you watch this. Girlfriends are ok if you want to gross them out. I'm already in the doghouse with the Mrs. so I've got nothing to lose! Don't let other people rob you of an experience that will, at the very least, give you abdominal pains from the bellowing laughter and pleasant surprises that this film holds?
6. Besides, if we don't encourage studios to push their creative aspirations, we're the ones that'll end up missing out because I can't produce anything, can you? I'm boring! I'm a consumer when it comes to these things (movies). Also, do you have any idea how hard it is to actually make a production like this? In many cases, they have no idea if it'll work and therefore the money to support it is often reflected in the final production. Here's a little proof. Gal Gadot only received $300k for Wonder Woman (which went on to become a freaking blockbuster). NO ONE KNEW IT WOULD BE A HIT!
7. You all know that Japanese Film Producers are... eccentric. I love that! In Anime, it's crazy and that's, in my opinion, why it's so popular. However, live action productions like this actually showed me how much I dismiss and suspend disbelief while watching anime/cartoons. I mean, this is full-bore gross. I lost track of all of the times I yelled "WTF!"
8. I've seen both seasons of the Anime and here is my final conclusion. The full breadth of the story can be found in Manga. If you're into that thing, I would recommend you read it first. Don't listen to the ELITES that have "seen it all" and want to tell you what you should do and not. Next, you've likely seen the anime and you're likely a fan. Try a different approach to this live action film; it in no way will ever have the time (or money) to tell the same story as the anime. Remove all expectations and try renting the movie with friend (bring beer). Let everyone chip in for the massive $3.99 to cover the film and see what happens.
I hope that others will consider not shutting down other people based on their own opinions. I hope that you watch the film and get online and talk about what you liked or didn't like with others. Isn't that what it's all about? Best wishes, my friends and I had a blast and I hope that you and yours do the same!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excelente
