    This is a thought-provoking movie, beautifully told. You don't need to know about Döblin's original novel, but if you do, you'll appreciate the subtle ways in which the director alludes to Weimar culture in his modern-day Berlin setting. Its telling and the surrealistic touches only add to its appeal and effect.

    Ein 3-Stunden Film wie ein Fiebertraum, wunderschön und ergreifend, mit tollen Darstellern. Ästhetisch für einen deutschen Film auf hohem Niveau. Sicherlich kein perfekter Film, aber perfekte Filmkunst. Für alle die noch etwas neues, gewagtes im Kino bzw. Im Heimkino erleben wollen kann ich dieses Mammutwerk nur empfehlen. Leider kam mir ausgerechnet der große Joachim Krol irgendwie fehlbesetzt vor, ist aber vielleicht nur meine Wahrnehmung. Trotzdem volle Punktzahl von mir!
