Hand-drawn by Two Time Academy Award Nominee Bill Plympton, Idiots & Angels follows the story of Angel, a selfish, abusive, morally bankrupt man who hangs out as his local bar, berating the other patrons. One day, Angel mysteriously wakes up with a pair of wings on his back. The wings make him do good deeds, contrary to his nature. He desperately tries to rid himself of the good wings, but eventually finds himself fighting those who view the wings as their ticket to fame and fortune.

    Der Zeichenstiel Plymptons begeistert mich immer wieder. Allein seine audrucksvollen Bilder reichen aus, dialoglos, eine Geschichte zu erzählen, die dem Betrachter allerdings einiges abverlangt.
    Ob Idiot & Angels mal ein Meisterwek werden wird sei dahingestellt. Für mich, der selbst zeichnet und solche ungewöhnlichen Geschichten mag, war es jedenfalls ein Hochgenuß!!

    Klare 5 Sterne für diesen sehr tiefgehenden Film.

    Assioma: il cinema d'animazione è la forma più pura di cinema. Il regista fa quello che vuole in ogni ambito. Come se non bastasse, questo film non ha dialoghi, funziona solo per immagini. Quindi è una forma ancora più pura di cinema. Qui il regista è anche attore, scenografo, sceneggiatore etc. OK: non è vero proprio per tutti gli ambiti della produzione di tutto il cinema d'animazione. Nel caso di Bill Plympton è vero per quasi tutto: è lui che disegna e fa recitare i personaggi, che disegna le quinte e fa moltissime altre cose, praticamente tutto a parte il tecnico del suono e il musicista. Questo è cinema indipendente, ma non solo per modo di dire.
    Devo dire che i suoi cortometraggi sono migliori, hanno più ritmo. I suoi lungometraggi sono sempre stati un po' più bolsi rispetto ai corti. Questo comunque è il più riuscito. Non vi sto a raccontare la storia. Dico solo che alla sua proverbiale cattiveria e al suo cinismo questa volta ha aggiunto un po' più di poesia (che si stia rammollendo?). Poesia enfatizzata anche dall' uso del colore che si differenzia dai precedenti film di Plympton. Vale la pena di vederlo. Se però non conoscete ancora Bill Plympton iniziate dai cortometraggi. Sono molto più godibili (se siete copiosamente dotati di umorismo nero).
