- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021Another great Batman story. When I first saw a clip of the redhead flirting in a bar with another woman, I was upset because I thought the writers made Batgirl gay. Then I read through the comments, this was another character named Kate Kane/ Batwoman. This was the first time I heard of Batwoman. I was prepared to dislike this movie but I ended up liking it and watching it multiple times even though Kate's reasoning for becoming Batwoman was weak, it was still strong compared to the CW show where her sexuality is most important element about her. She is an unlikable character whose sexuality is constantly bought up but she is better written in this movie than in the live action show. I hate like in most movies they did Batgirl dirty and hardly give her any screen time. She has a cameo role in most movies. She is no longer Dick's love interest and has been sidelined for Starfire. The most screen time she has was in the cringeworthy scene of her love scene on the rooftop with her mentor Batman in The Killing Joke movie.
But also, those were my disappointments with this movie. I love this movie allowed other members of the Batman family to shine like Damien Wayne as Robin, Dick Grayson as Nightwing, Kate Kane as Batwoman, and Luke Fox as Batwing taking up the slack when Batman goes Mia while investigating a crime and saving an ungrateful Batwoman in the process who questions whether Batman died in the explosion leading her to meet up with her old friend Dick Grayson who takes on the mantle of Batman so the criminals won't suspect Batman is missing.
I loved Dick getting to take over as Batman as his rightful successor and the argument between him and Damien regarding Dick wanting to replace Batman. I loved how Damien drops everything to find his family. The brotherly love between Dick and Damien and their conflicted relationship with their father figure Bruce Wayne.
Kate also has a great backstory and I loved her relationship with her father who knows her secrets identity. Luke Fox, a former US soldier and genius like his father Lucius Fox, wants to choose his own path separate from his father. But when the same people behind Batman's disappearance attacks his father, he is driven to join the fight. All connected to Dick in some way but driven to help others by Batman's example.
This was a fun and touching movie with a strong theme in family and choosing one's destiny. I loved the Indiana Jones scene with Dick as Batman in the church scene. Another powerful scene was in the final act when Dick gets though to Bruce showing their bond and understanding of one another in their complicated relationship. Dick is a perfect balance of who Bruce could be if he allowed himself to have a life as Bruce Wayne while still being Batman and helping others. Oh and even Alfred was able to get in a little on the action.
Awesome Batman movie. But the DVD is a different region from the USA. So unless your DVD player is for all regions, you will not be able to watch the movie.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2024After recently rediscovering my love for the DC universe, I'd begun to browse through the vast expanse that is the Justice League series of animated movies. I paused when I stumbled upon this one, and after coming to realize that it's been expertly crafted as it completely drew me in, I only wanted to look for others like it. Such an excellent storyline. I hope to see more of the same. I'm definitely a huge fan of these types of films. Even in my early 30's, I still find marvel and amusement here after long 12 hr shifts at the factory. 5 Stars .. Full Recommendation.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 17, 2016The Dark Knight goes full on zero dark thirty. This has to be the most compelling and complex Batman film I have ever seen. From the involvement of Cathy Cane as Batwoman to the newest Robin to the animated introduction of Batwing, there is something for every bat-fan in this film. (Yes, I totally bat-went there. #Batman66).
This film from DC takes an already dark property and propels it deeper while making one question how much the world really needs a Batman. This story is the next chapter of a story that began in the DC film Son of Batman and Batman vs Robin. If one is to look at this as a trilogy, you might think by the third installment that the steam might have rolled out. This is NOT the case with Batman: Bad Blood. It remains sharp on point and keeps you hooked.
I also love the storyline with Cathy Cane that keeps in continuity with the storyline started in the New 52 universe. Spoiler alert!! This film is not child friendly. This is a more adult oriented film. If you are offended by sexuality of any kind or innuendos of sexuality, then DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN WATCH THIS FILM UNLESS YOU WANT TO EXPLAIN WHAT SUCH THINGS ARE.
This film works great as a stand-alone film. The folks at DC really know how to make these direct-to-market properties sing for their proverbial supper. The creative teams are EXCELLENT. These films stay true to the source material and give you new perspectives and make the stories come alive in a whole new way that resonates. Hollywood NEEDS to get it together and realize DCUniverse's creative teams should be running the show with the live-action properties. If they did, DC could finally reclaim a foothold in the feature film blockbuster arena.
Watch this film and you'll see what I mean. The action is intense. The storytelling is masterful. No matter what level of Bat-fan you are, you will find plenty of things to love about Batman: Bad Blood.
