Alice Allegra Englert was born in New Zealand. Her father is Australian filmmaker Colin Englert, and she has a young half-brother, Gabriel. She made her screen debut in the short films Listen (2001) by Paula Maling and The Water Diary (2006), written and directed by Englert's mother, New Zealand-born Academy Award-winner Jane Campion.
