He attended St. Mary's School (Alma Mater of Dylan McDermott), Sacred Heart High School and then graduated Western Connecticut State University with a degree in Photography, Film and Television. His film career began upon meeting Gorman Bechard and they raised money to shoot their first low-budget feature, Disconnected (1983). Carmine went off on his own and dabbled for the next few years with small parts working on or in One Life to Live, an MTV video, a Hallmark Hall of Fame TV movie, commercials (ESPN), award-winning host of his own cable show and some small independent films such as Everything Moves Alone (2001) and The White Car.
