Jo Harvey Allen is an actress, playwright, poet, and pioneer of women in radio. She has appeared in numerous films including co-starring roles in David Byrne's cult classic True Stories (1986), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Client (1994), and most recently stars as "Mama" in Rosalyn Rosen's award-winning independent film The Other Kind (2015) and appears in Tommy Lee Jones' soon to be released The Homesman (2014). Her critically acclaimed plays have toured throughout the United States and Europe. She has written and starred in off-Broadway productions of "A Moment's Hesitation," "Counter Angel," and "As it is in Texas." Her other one-woman plays include "Hally Lou" (MOCA, Museum of Contemporary Art, L.A.), "Duckblind" (Cornet Theater, L.A.), and "Homerun" (Remembrance Through the Performing Arts). She co-wrote and starred in "Chippy...(Diaries of a West Texas Hooker)" (American Music Theater Festival and Lincoln Center), the opera "Pioneer" (Spoleto Festival), "Every Three Minutes" (radio play, NPR), and "Covenant" (Oliver Ranch Foundation).
