John Massari (born Giovanni Massari in New York City, New York) is an American composer and sound designer. John Massari's diverse career path in Film Composing began to germinate after his family moved to Los Angeles, California. Film music's powerful influence drew him to explore creating original music at age 6 as he began training on piano, trumpet and contra bass. While performing in student orchestras and rock bands, Massari studied musical composition privately at Chapman University. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) studying composition and orchestration with Henri Lazarof, and David Raksin as well as private studies with Dr. Albert Harris. At UCLA, Massari earned the Frank Sinatra Music Award for composition. He began his professional career orchestrating for composers Jerry Fielding, David Rose, and Mark Snow while continuing private studies in composition with Leonard Stein at the University of Southern California (USC).
