María Coral Otero Soto was born October 23, 1990 in Puerto Rico. She was introduced to art at a very young age, and began her career as a child actor. Her debut in film was at 13 years old with the lead role in the feature film Ruido, directed by Cesar Rodríguez. María Coral received great reviews for her work in Ruido by the American actress Kathy Bates, which was the jury director at the 2006 Festival des Films du Monde in Montreal, where that same year the film received the first ever Innovation Award given at the festival. With Ruido, María Coral also attended the VIII Santo Domingo Film Festival where the film won Best New Movie, and the Havana Film Festival winning the audience award. Although María Coral started acting, dancing and vocal classes at the age of nine, it was not until she finished high school that she devoted all her attention to more intense training.
