After graduating from the University of California at Berkeley, Steven North earned a Masters in Drama at Bristol (England) University, then attended UCLA film school for a year and a half. He left UCLA when Haskell Wexler offered him a job as associate producer on Medium Cool. He produced his first feature, Homer, in 1969, and has had a rich career in feature film and television production ever since. In 1973 he produced Shanks, written by Ranald Graham, and scored by Steven's father,Alex North, earning Alex an Oscar nomination a Best Original Score. His best known features include the critically acclaimed The Last Butterfly (1990) directed by Karel Kachyna, and Vukovar (1994), winner of 21 international awards. His many quality television productions, for Disney, Hallmark, ABC, CBS, NBC and cable networks, have earned praise and high ratings, and a prime time Emmy Award for Huckelberry Finn.
