He is known for his role as "Kelly Severide" on the hit TV series, Chicago Fire (2012), on NBC; as werewolf "Mason Lockwood" on The Vampire Diaries (2009), on The CW; and as "Glenn Morrison" on Trauma (2009), which aired on NBC.Kinney was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to Pamela (Heisler) and Daniel Kinney. He is of German, Swiss-German, and English ancestry. Taylor and his three brothers were raised in Neffsville, Pennsylvania by their single mother, who worked as a dental hygienist.
